Biden reverses Trump’s policies
Only two days into Joseph R. Biden’s presidency, Mr. Biden’s faced with a mountain of challenges, not the least of which is crafting a new vaccination rollout plan, since the former president’s plan turned out to be no plan at all, not even a bare-bones plan. Trump thought the 50 states could handle the rollout, but President Biden is well aware the job is going to have to be tackled at the federal government level. Still, he’s hopeful his campaign promise of administering 100 million vaccinations within the first 100 days is doable, refusing to let the Trump impeachment trial overshadow his vaccination plan.
In the meantime, President Biden has already been very busy reversing so many of the harmful policies his predecessor had adopted, including rejoining the Paris climate accord; reversing the relaxation of vehicle emissions standards; placing a moratorium on oil and gas exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge; asking a group of experts to study the long-term effects of greenhouse gas emissions; strengthening bonds with the World Health Organization; ending the Muslim ban, which prevented people from traveling to the United States from African and Muslim countries; rescinding the permit for the Keystone XL Pipeline; eradicating racial inequities and barriers, “rooting out systemic racism” in the federal workforce, making sure all Americans have equal access to federal government services, and requiring that the federal government not discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity; extending a federal moratorium on evictions, foreclosures and student loan payments; stopping all efforts to find and deport unauthorized immigrants; making sure DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) children can stay an additional two years and become eligible for a work permit in the United States; protecting Dreamers from deportation and providing them with a path to citizenship; stopping the building of the Mexican-U.S. border wall; and urging all Americans to mask up and social distance in an effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, which has already claimed the lives of more than 406,000 Americans.
Perhaps the most refreshing aspect of Biden’s presidency is the fact that, from Day One, he’s been seeking the cooperation of both parties. No more bickering. He wants the Democrats and the Republicans to come together and work toward a common goal for the sake of all Americans.
